For this exercise I gathered some images of logos used on menus, including some very modern clip art designs.
Using these images, I drew a spider
diagram, with as many types of fish and seafood I could think of.
I sketched out a few types of fish,
trying out some ideas as basic thumbnails.
I chose to work at five times the
final image size, so that I could use a looser style of painting, with
watercolour, wetting the paper first, so that the colours ran into each other,
giving the image a contemporary feel to it.
Once the image was dry, I flicked
extra colour on to it, with a stiff bristled toothbrush, before scanning it and
reducing it to the final image size.
The logo does work well, although
the colours have not reproduced well through my printer, but you can see the
nature of the design well.
Overall, printer colour differences
aside, this image is simple and direct, which I think is important for a logo
design.
